Neill Blomkamp In Talks to Write and Direct Sci-Fi Film THE GONE WORLD

As you probably know by now, Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 project has been put on hold, and the director is moving on to pursue other film projects. He is now in talks with 20th Century Fox to write and direct a big screen adaptation of an upcoming sci-fi novel called The Gone World

The studio just landed the rights to the story, which was written by Thomas Sweterlitsch, and the book hasn't even been published yet. It's described as "a time travel procedural." There are no other details regarding the story at the moment.

I really wanted to see Blomkamp get to make his Alien film, but it's looking like that's not going to happen for a while, so Fox is giving him the opportunity to take on this other project. I guess it's like a consolation prize or something. "Hey! We're not going to let you make Alien 5, but here's this thing we hope you'll like!"

Who knows? This could end up being an awesome film project — we just don't know enough about it. As for Blomkamp, he wowed audiences with District 9, but since then he seems to have disappointed audiences with film like Elysium and Chappie. I'd like to see him make something great again. Maybe The Gone World will be it.
