Neo-Noir Featurette for Guillermo del Toro's NIGHTMARE ALLEY

A new new-noir featurette has been released for Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley and in it, the director shares some insight on the story saying that “it’s the flip side of the American dream, it’s a nightmare.” It also includes members of the cast discussing what the filmmaker is bringing to the movie and there’s also some new footage from the film for you to enjoy.

This movie looks great. It centers on Bradley Cooper’s character, who claims to be a medium. Del Toro explains that he designed the whole movie around Bradley Cooper in the same way that Hollywood designed their films around certain movie stars in the 1930s.

In the film, Cooper plays Stan Carlisle, "an ambitious carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words." He ends up hooking up with "Dr. Lilith Ritter (Cate Blanchett), a psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is."

When talking about Blanchett’s character Del Toro said, he is presenting her as one of the grande dames of that 1930s era of cinema.

The director says that with this movie, he wanted to make it the “modern equivalent of the movies that people complain they don’t do anymore.” The movie celebrate cinematic style and it looks freakin’ great!

Nightmare Alley is an adaptation of the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, but as you might have expected, Del Toro offers a fresh take on the story. When previously talking about the movie, Del Toro said it’s filled with "a very strange, mystical allure." I also have to say that I love the setting of the film and its noir tone.

The movie also stars Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette, Holt McCallany, Ron Perlman, Richard Jenkins, and David Strathairn. Nightmare Alley will be released in theaters everywhere starting on December 17th, 2021.
