Netflix Acquires Lee Daniels' Exorcism Horror Film with Caleb McLaughlin, Octavia Spencer, and Andra Day

After a heated bidding war with several Hollywood studios including MGM and Miramax, Netflix won the right to Lee Daniels’ next film project. The streaming service paid a cool $65 million for the movie.

The movie is based on a true story and it stars Andra Day, who plays “an Indiana mother who believes her child has become demonically possessed.” The movie also stars Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things) as Day’s character’s son, Rob Morgan is portraying Day’s love interest, and Octavia Spencer has been cast as “a clergy member who attempts to help the family work through the paranormal activity and eventual exorcism.” The movie also stars Glenn Close and breakout Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard).

Daniels, who previously made The United States vs. Billie Holiday and The Butler, is not only directing the exorcism film, but he’s also writing the script with David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum.

The movie is expected to begin production sometime in 2022. I enjoy a good horror film, so it’ll be interesting to see how the story for this plays out!
