Netflix Announces Exclusive Disney Deal Launching in September

Come this September, Netflix will be the destination for all things Disney. That's pretty substantial when you realize Netflix will have exclusive access to Disney/Lucasfilm/Marvel/Pixar films. The deal highlights that all films post-September 2016 and beyond will be available on Netflix the same time they become available for "first pay run," which means when networks can still purchase them after the Blu-ray and DVD release.

The Verge says this agreement also blocks Starz, HBO, Hulu, Amazon, and all other competitors from getting access to films as immediately as Netflix from that point on. When you think of all the Star Wars and Marvel films alone coming in the next decade, this is a huge win for Netflix!

Ultimately, I view this as a good thing. As streaming services continue to grow, we need deals like these to allow some to fail and fade away. The last thing I want is a decade from now to have streaming options that equal the cost of a current monthly cable bill!
