Netflix Cancels Fantasy Series from DARK Producers After Production Is Completed

Netflix has canceled a new fantasy series that was being developed by the producers of the hit German-language mystery thriller series Dark.

The show is titled The Grimm Reality, and it was scrapped despite production already being completed. So, they have a completed show that is now on the shelf.

No plot details were given, but it was initially described as a "fairy tale urban fantasy thriller" so it may have drawn heavy inspiration from 18th and 19th Century folklore writers the Brothers Grimm.

There’s no reason as to why the series was scrapped. But, maybe it was so bad that they didn’t want to release it.

The series was created by Till Kleinert (Der Samurai) and Dog Haus’ Erol Yesilkaya, who is a producer and screenwriter. The cast included Hyuan Wanner, Patrick Isermeyer, Eidin Jalali and Dennis Schuermann.

Dark was a great show, though, and it was one of Netflix’s earliest foreign successes, paving the way for other projects like Squid Game and Lupin.

If you haven’t watched Dark yet, you should. In the story, “When two children go missing in a small German town, its sinful past is exposed along with the double lives and fractured relationships that exist among four families as they search for the kids.

“The mystery-drama series introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that includes a web of curious characters, all of whom have a connection to the town's troubled history -- whether they know it or not.

“The story includes supernatural elements that tie back to the same town in 1986.”
