Well, the victorian-set supernatural mystery series The Irregulars didn’t last long. Netflix has canceled the series after one. season.

This was actually a fun show, and it told the story of a group of troubled teenagers who have magical abilities and are manipulated into helping Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson solve some of their more fantastical cases. They actually took the show into some dark places, which I enjoyed.

This eight-part drama followed “a gang of troubled street teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the elusive Sherlock Holmes. As the crimes take on a horrifying supernatural edge and a dark power emerges, the Irregulars must come together to defeat larger than life forces.”

The Irregulars is based on the Baker Street Irregulars gang from the original Sir Arther Conan Doyle books. While I enjoyed the first season, I not too attached to it. It’s weird that the series got the axe because it apparently had a successful run landing on Netflix’s top 10 list and edged out The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in Nielsen’s weekly U.S. streaming charts at the end of April. But, Netflix has a reputation of cancelling shows early.

The series starred Thaddea Graham (Letter For The King, Us) as Bea; Darci Shaw (Judy) as Jessie; Jojo Macari (Sex Education) as Billy; Mckell David (Snatch) as Spike; Harrison Osterfield (Catch 22) as Leopold; Henry Lloyd-Hughes (Killing Eve) as Sherlock Holmes; Royce Pierreson (The Witcher) as John Watson’ and Clarke Peters (His Dark Materials) as The Linen Man.

The project was written and executive produced by Tom Bidwell (My Mad Fat Diary), and was executive produced by Jude Liknaitzky (My Mad Fat Diary) and Greg Brenman (Peaky Blinders). The series was produced by Rebecca Hodgson (Good Cop, Deep Water) and the lead director was Johnny Allan (Endeavour) with Joss Agnew (Poldark) and Weronika Tofilska (Last Train) also directing.
