Netflix is near closing the deal on the KISS biopic Shout It Out Loud, with Joachim Rønning set to direct. The film looks to Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman to tell the story of the iconic rock band. Rønning is known for directing Kon-Tiki, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and he will direct from a script by Ole Sanders, with an earlier draft by W. Blake Herron.

Shout It Out Loud will have close cooperation from bandleaders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Deadline reports, “The band’s concert arena anthems will be a big part of this, but the film will focus on that duo going back to when they were two misfit kids from Queens who formed an unlikely friendship, starting KISS after enlisting guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss. Trying to set themselves apart from the ‘hair’ bands of the day, they accented their power chords and pyrotechnics with makeup. At heart, their formative story is in the vein of The Commitments, if that Irish soul band employed kabuki makeup and spiked heels.”

This project is on the fast track, and we should hear news that the deal is done in the coming days. This will be a fun band to hear the origin of. Are you a fan of KISS?
