Netflix Confirms Cast for Its Live-Action GUNDAM Movie

Netflix is officially moving forward with its live-action take on one of the most iconic sci-fi franchises ever, and now we’ve got a fresh wave of casting news to dig into.

The long-anticipated Gundam movie is currently in production, and the ensemble just got a serious expansion with a mix of rising talent and seasoned actors stepping into the world of giant mech warfare.

Joining the film are Jackson White, Nonso Anozie, Javon Walton, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Ida Brooke, and Jason Isaacs. As expected with a project like this, character details are being kept under wraps, so there’s still plenty of mystery around who they’ll be playing in this interstellar conflict.

They’ll be sharing the screen with previously announced leads Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo, along with a supporting lineup that includes Shioli Kutsuna, Michael Mando, and Gemma Chua-Tran. It’s a pretty eclectic cast, which could make for some interesting dynamics once the story unfolds.

For those not deep into the lore, Gundam comes from Bandai Namco Filmworks and helped define the “mecha” genre. The franchise has been around for decades, telling stories centered on massive humanoid robots used in war, usually with a strong focus on political tension and the human cost of conflict.

The story for the film reportedly follows rival mech pilots fighting on opposite sides of a long-running war between Earth and its former space colonies.

As alliances begin to shift and a larger threat emerges, the characters are pulled into a race across space that could ultimately determine humanity’s future. It sounds like the kind of large-scale sci-fi drama fans would hope for, blending action with character-driven stakes.

The film is being produced by Legendary Pictures in partnership with Bandai Namco Filmworks, marking the franchise’s first leap into live-action territory.

Directing the project is Jim Mickle, best known for his work on Sweet Tooth, who also wrote the script. He’s producing alongside Linda Moran through their company Nightshade, with additional producers including Cale Boyter, Ali Mendes, Sweeney, Centineo, and Enzo Marc.

Production is currently underway in Queensland, Australia, which has become a popular hub for large-scale productions thanks to its diverse landscapes and production facilities.

I can’t wait to see how this movie comes together.
