Netflix Debuts First Trailer for Tyler Perry's Romantic Drama A JAZZMAN'S BLUES
Netflix has released the first trailer for the romantic drama, A Jazzman’s Blues, which was written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry. Described as Perry’s longtime passion project, “the period drama tells the tale of forbidden love, starring Joshua Boone and Solea Pfeiffer as Bayou and Leanne, a star-crossed couple navigating the world as young Black people in the deep South during the 1940s and through the decades that follow.”
This movie feels very similar to The Notebook, in its time period, story, and even one of the houses in the trailer looks like the one from The Notebook. But who’s going to pass up another movie that tells a great love story like that? And this one gives a whole new perspective, as the characters are trying to succeed on different spectrums of society in Black Southern culture. Plus Perry has reportedly been working on getting this movie made since well before the Nicholas Sparks novel The Notebook was even written. Perry wrote the script in 1995 after a chance encounter with August Wilson at an after party for one of the legendary playwright’s shows in Atlanta.
The trailer is set to the original song, “Paper Airplanes,” performed by Ruth B., who is among the heavy-hitters Perry enlisted to add panache to the musical components of the jazz age-set story. The film also features songs arranged and produced by Grammy-winner and Academy Award-nominee Terence Blanchard, music by Aaron Zigman and choreography by the legendary Debbie Allen.
Rounding out the film’s ensemble cast are Amirah Vann, Austin Scott, Milauna Jemai Jackson, Brent Antonello, Brad Benedict, Kario Marcel, Lana Young, and Ryan Eggold.
This looks like an excellent movie, and if you like this genre, it seems you’ll want to tune in. Netflix is set to release A Jazzman’s Blues on September 23rd. Check out the trailer below:
