Netflix Developing Live-Action PARASYTE: THE GREY Series with TRAIN TO BUSAN Director

Netflix is teaming up with Train to Busan and Hellbound director Yeon Sang-ho to develop a live-action Korean adaptation of the hit Japanese sci-fi horror manga Parasyte: The Grey.

The story sees a group of humans wage war against the rising evil of unidentified parasitic life-forms that live off of human hosts and strive to grow their power.

The series stars Jeon So-nee (Scripting Your Destiny, When My Love Blooms, Encounter) as Jeong Su-in “who falls victim to a parasite; when it fails to take over her brain, she enters a bizarre coexistence with it.”

The series also stars Koo Kyo-hwan (Peninsula, D.P. and Kingdom: Ashin of the North) as Seol Kang-woo who “tracks down parasites in order to find his missing sister”. Then there’s Lee Jung-hyun (Peninsula, Decision To Leave, The Admiral: Roaring Currents), who plays Choi Jun-kyung, the leader of ‘Team Grey,’ “a task force battling parasites. Having lost her husband to these invasive life-forms, she devotes herself to their demise.”

Yeon talked about the project, saying: “The story will be completely different from the original. The opening will set up that the parasites have landed in Korea, too, and what happens. I conveyed that I wanted to do this sort of story to the original author through Kodansha and we were able to proceed because he liked it.”

The project is preparing to start shooting next month. A release date has yet to be set.
