Netflix Ditches Director Gore Verbinski's Animated Film CATTYWUMPUS and It's Being Shopped to Other Studios
Director Gore Verbinski has been developing a new animated film project for Netflix titled Cattywumpus, but the streaming service is ditching the project. Verbinski is now shopping the project around Hollywood in hopes it gets picked up by another studio or streaming service.
This would be Verbinski’s second animated feature, his first being Rango, which was great! Cattywumpus is an original concept and there’s not much known about the story. But, it’s reportedly set in space, and it features a cast of cat characters.
Netflix dropped the project as the U.S. animation industry is reeling from layoffs and cancellations at Netflix and HBO Max. Animated projects are long, complex, and expensive and it’s not uncommon for things to go sideways in the middle of production.
At least Netflix is allowing them to move the project to another home, which I hope they find. I’d like to see another animated film from Verbinski!
