First Trailer for Netflix's MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: ONCE & ALWAYS

Last night, Netflix dropped the first trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. This is the 30th anniversary special celebrating Power Rangers, and fans have been dying for a trailer. There are tons of questions still left, but there’s a lot in here. It turns out that Rita kills, that’s right, they use the word kill, Trini, and then Rita’s big plan is to go back into the past to kill the Rangers before they’re Rangers. This seems to be what leads into calling in additional Rangers for support.

As Alpha is using the computer of whatever base they currently have we do see some interesting names as well. Bandora Protocol is a reference to RIta’s palace which was called Bandora’s Palace because that was her name in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. Coral Harbor, the home of Grid Battleforce and the Beast Morphers team; Reefside, the home of the Dino Thunder Rangers; Turtle Cove, home of the Wild Force Rangers; and Astro Megaship, from Power Rangers In Space, can all be seen. It would be really cool if we got some kind of Ranger representation from each of those seasons was able to make even a cameo, but it doesn’t seem like it will happen.

There are still a fair number of questions that I still have about Once & Always though. Why is Rita evil and a robot? She talks about having a new body, but at the end of In Space, she was purified of her evil and still had a body. How does Zack still have powers? I know we’ve seen Adam come back and stuff, but Zack had to use the Sword of LIght to transfer his powers to Adam. Is there going to be an explanation for why only four Rangers seem to be called in for the job? It looks like Adam and Aisha are playing more of a secondary role with whatever S.P.A. is. Will Trini’s daughter Minh morph? My guess is probably and I wouldn’t be surprised if she became a leader for the next generation. I am sure most of these questions will go unanswered as they likely seem pretty trivial from a production standpoint and that’s honestly fine.

[The Rangers come] face to face with a familiar threat from the past. In the midst of a global crisis, they are called on once again to be the heroes the world needs. Inspired by the legendary mantra from the franchise 'Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger,' Once & Always reminds everyone when you become a Ranger, you are always a part of the Ranger family and always welcome.

Once & Always will be available to stream on Netflix starting April 19. The special stars David Yost as Billy Cranston, Catherine Sutherland as Kat Hillard, Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam Park, Karan Ashley as Aisha Campbell, Walter Emanuel Jones as Zack Taylor, Steve Cardenas as Rocky DeSantos, and Charlie Kersh as Minh. Barbara Goodson and Richard Horvitz are reprising their roles to voice Rita Repulsa and Alpha 5 respectively. Are you ready to watch the Rangers stop Rita once again?
