Netflix Gains Another 5.3 Million Subscribers, Plans on Releasing 80 Original Films and Spending $8 Billion on Programming in 2018

Remember when you thought everyone had Netflix? Well now more than everyone has Netflix. The streaming giant once again beat industry predictions and ended their Q3 with 5.3 million new subs according to Variety. That's up 49% from last year and another strong report from the platform.

It's not like anyone expected anything drastically different of course, Netflix has been pulling in huge numbers as well as a huge amount of debt from grabbing original series left and right. As long as they keep growing, that shouldn't be a problem, but it does make one wonder what happens when Netflix has a bad quarter.

It's also being reported that the streaming service plans on releasing 80 original films in 2018! According to chief content officer Ted Sarandos the films “range anywhere from the million-dollar Sundance hit, all the way up to something on a much larger scale."

On top of those big, larger scale films is Will Smith and David Ayer's Bright. With that movie as an example, Sarandos goes on to say, “I think people will start seeing the potential for this original movie initiative, that it could be done on the enormous scale we have on the television side.”

CNN also reports that they will also spend as much as $8 billion on shows and movies in 2018. The company said in a statement:

"We have a good head start, but our job is to improve Netflix as rapidly as possible ... to stay ahead of the competition in the decades to come.

They are going all out! Do you think Netflix is just going to continue to rise with no end? What do you think about all this?
