Netflix Gets First Look Deal with BOOM! Studios
If you’re a GeekTyrant veteran, you probably know that I really like BOOM! Studios. They put out some really awesome comics like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Go Go Power Rangers, Once & Future, and so many more. Well, the comic publisher has now signed a first-look deal with Netflix. This deal covers both live-action and animated series and has me very excited. Brian Wright from Netflix released this statement:
BOOM! characters are innately special, they’re colorful, diverse and varied and their stories have the power to ignite something in all of us. We can’t wait to bring these stories from the page to the screen to fans in every corner of the world.
Ross Richie of BOOM! added:
We generate 20+ new original series a year and are thrilled to partner with a streamer that is as prolific as we are. BOOM!’s unique partnership model benefits creators by positioning them to be packaged with high-end directors, screenwriters, and producers. We’re thrilled to continue our track record of translating our best-selling award-winning library with the best TV talent in the business but now with the undisputed leader of the new streaming era.
While my dreams of getting a series based on the amazing Power Rangers comics probably won’t happen as Hasbro probably has those rights, I am excited at other prospects. This includes the potential for a Once & Future series and even a Ghosted in L.A. series could be really fun. Of course, many out there would love a Something Is Killing the Children series. The questions is, would these be better as animated series or live-action ones? What series would you like to see adapted from BOOM!?
