Netflix Has Already Ordered a Sequel To David Ayer's BRIGHT and Will Smith Has Signed on To Return
Director David Ayer's Bright is one of Netflix's biggest original film productions to date. it hasn't even been released yet, but according to Bloomberg, the streaming service has already ordered a sequel! They also say that Will Smith has already signed on for the sequel. They are obviously expecting big things from this movie.
I'm actually pretty stoked about this movie. I like the fact that it's a crime drama that is set in a modern-day fantasy world filled with humans, orcs, and fairies that all co-exist with each other. it also revolves around a magic wand that is apparently a big deal in this crazy alternate universe. Here's the synopsis for the upcoming movie:
Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time. Bright is genre-bending action movie that follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward (Will Smith) and Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.
Bright also stars Lucy Fry (11.22.63), Edgar Ramirez (Hands of Stone, Zero Dark Thirty), Margaret Cho (Drop Dead Diva), and Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad). The movie is written by Max Landis (Chronicle).
There's no word on who else might return for the sequel, but I imagine there's a chance for any of the characters that end up surviving the first movie.
Bright is set to be released on December 22nd. Do you think Netflix is jumping the gun on this or do you think Bright is going to be a big hit?
