Netflix Hires a Writer for Adaptation of Mark Millar's REBORN
Netflix has hired a writer to take on their film adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic book Reborn. That writer is Bek Smith, who came out of the Marvel writers program. She is currently working on an untitled Into the Spider-Verse spinoff as well as an adaptation of DC/Vertigo comic 100 Bullets, set up at New Line.
The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay is on board to helm the film, which is being produced by Sandra Bullock, Roy Lee, and Miri Moon of Vertigo Entertainment.
Reborn is a sci-fi fantasy story that plays with the idea of what happens after a person dies. In this story, "an 80-year-old woman who dies in a hospital and wakes up as a much younger version of herself in a fantastical land of monsters and dragons where an endless war between good and evil wages on. She is reunited with old friends and loved ones, except with her husband who died before her. With her late father and childhood dog, she sets out on a quest to find him.”
Sounds like a cool concept and it could actually make for a pretty rad flick. Reborn is one of several Millar-created projects that are in active development at Netflix. The streaming service has definitely been taking advantage of Millar’s properties since they bought Millarworld in 2017.
Millar wrote the comic, which was originally published in 2016, and it was illustrated by Greg Capullo. Millar and Capullo are serving as executive producers.
