Netflix Is Developing a New Choose Your Own Adventure Crime Series Titled JIGSAW
Netflix has announced that they are developing a new choose your own adventure style crime series titled Jigsaw. The heist drama has hired Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) to star in the series that promises to be "unlike any series you've seen before."
The new series has nothing to do with the Saw franchise, despite the coincidental name. This will be Netflix’s second foray into the choose your own adventure type of storytelling. It saw initial success with its 2018 interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which allowed viewers to take control of the story by selecting different on-screen options throughout the episode. With that single project under their belt, they are taking on a full series in the format.
Here’s the synopsis:
Spanning 24 years, Jigsaw centers around the largest heist ever attempted, and the vengeance, scheming, loyalties, and betrayals that surround it. It's loosely inspired by the real-life story where seventy billion dollars in bonds went missing in downtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy.
Eric Garcia (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) is showrunning the series, with Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) set to helm the first two episodes. Esposito is joined in the cast by Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, and Jai Courtney.
Jigsaw is currently filming in New York. Are you intrigued by this kind of format for a show?
