Netflix is Removing ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT From Its Streaming Catalogue
Hold on to your bananas because Netflix is about to cut the cord on one of its most beloved comedy series, Arrested Development. Every episode of the comedy, including both Seasons 4 and 5, which were produced by the streaming giant itself, are set to be removed from the platform on March 15th. So if you’re gonna binge it, you better start now!
The show initially aired for three seasons on Fox before getting canceled in 2006. But in 2012, when Netflix was just starting to get into the original content game, to the delight of fans, they brought the series back from the dead in a co-production with 20th Television and Imagine Entertainment.
The Arrested Development landing page on Netflix is already alerting viewers that March 14 is the last day to watch the series, but according to Variety, that still seems to be subject to change. There’s a chance that it could be saved, but if the removal of Arrested Development does go through, it would mark the first time Netflix has scrubbed its own original content. As you know, this is a trend that has become increasingly common on other platforms like HBO Max and Showtime.
When Netflix revived Arrested Development, they also secured non-exclusive streaming rights to the first three seasons of the show, which can also currently be found on Hulu.
Created by Mitchell Hurwitz, the series starred Jason Bateman, Jeffrey Tambor, Michael Cera, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, and Alia Shawkat.
