Netflix is Reportedly "Very Happy" with THE WITCHER Series and Looking to Greenlight Multiple Seasons

According to a recent report, Netflix is “very happy” with The Witcher series that is currently being developed by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. In fact, they are reportedly so happy with it that they are already looking at greenlighting multiple seasons!

The news comes from KC Walsh of Geeks WorldWide, who has a history of sharing reliable DCEU insider information. He says:

If this is the case, Henry Cavill, who is playing Geralt in the series, is about to have a really busy schedule. We got our first look at Cavill as Geralt a couple months ago, and it was met with mixed reactions from the fans.

I’m pretty stoked about this series, and it’s great to hear that Netflix is excited about it enough to lock it in for multiple seasons this early on. That’s a smart move, especially if they want to lock in Cavill sooner rather than later when his schedule could start filling up on film projects again.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the executive producer and showrunner on the series, and she's joined by Alik Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström, who will direct portions of the eight-episode first season. Sakharov will direct four episodes, including the first. Garcia Lopez and Brändström will direct two each.

The show is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's book and CD Projekt Red's game trilogy. When previously talking about the show, Hissrich assured fans that it would not be a watered down version of the dark and hardcore story that fans love.

Geralt of Rivia is a solitary monster hunter, who "struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together."

The Witcher chronicles monster hunters who, with training and body modification, develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly beasts. Executive producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown previously released the following statement offering some additional insight into the story:

“The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

Even though we haven’t seen any footage from The Witcher series yet, are you excited to hear that Netflix is looking to produce multiple seasons?
