Netflix Is Set to Produce the Remake of Jimmy Stewart's Classic 1950 Film HARVEY

It looks like Netflix is going to be the studio that finally brings us a remake of the classic 1950 Jimmy Stewart film Harvey.

Hollywood has been trying to get this film off the ground for years. At one point nine years ago, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks were supposed to develop it. But for one reason or another, it never happened.

Harvey tells the story of an amiable eccentric, Elwood P. Dowd, and his friendship with a six and a half foot tall invisible rabbit and how this affects every member of his family and his community. It’s such a fun concept and I really liked the original film. I guess it was only a matter of time before this movie got remade.

Netflix will produce the film alongside Fábrica de Cine, which also produced the upcoming Martin Scorsese mob film, The Irishman. They’ve also hired J. David Stem and David N. Weiss to write the script. They previously worked on films such as Shrek 2 and The Smurfs.

There’s no word on who will direct the film, but it will be interesting to see how the story ends up being updated for a modern audience.
