Netflix Lands Live-Action Adaptation of MY HERO ACADEMIA with OBI-WAN KENOBI Writer Joby Harold

Legendary Entertainment is developing a live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia, and the project has landed at Netflix. It was also announced that the script will be Joby Harold, who previously worked on Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, John Wick: Chapter 3, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Robin Hood, and Army of the Dead. On top of that renowned Japanese filmmaker Shinsuke Sato (Alice in Borderland) will direct and executive produce the project.

My Hero Academia is written and illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi. The story is set in a world in which 80% of humanity has developed some sort of special powers, known as quirks — not all of them super, and not all used for good. The story itself focuses on a young boy who obsessively follows the new heroes while having no abilities of his own, and regardless of that, he vows to work as hard as he can, quirk or no quirk, to become a symbol of peace and a beacon of hope for the world.

Harold has worked on several projects that have been both good and bad. Hopefully, his My Hero Academia project will be one of the good ones! I’m really curious about this project and interested to see how it turns out. This is such a believed property and there’s a high bar to reach with the fans.

Do you think this creative team is going to deliver a great adaptation?
