Netflix Making Coming of Age Series Based on Mindy Kaling's Adolescence

I am really excited that Netflix is working with Mindy Kaling on making a series based on her adolescence. Kaling said about the series in an interview with Variety:

“Netflix approached me about doing a series on young Mindy. I wasn’t as interested in telling a period piece about an Indian girl growing up in the ’80s, but I told them I’d love to do a show about a 15 year old Indian girl now.”

I think that’s really smart, because when you do a series based in another decade, the time period is almost like another character. You have to do a lot of homework, and the story always seems to revolve around the time.

I think the story of a first generation American girl dealing with societal issues, friends, family, school, social media, love, and growing up different is enough to pack in one series.

I love Mindy Kaling so much. She was hilarious on The Office, I loved her series The Mindy Project, and I’ve loved her books. She is so original, yet relatable, and so incredibly funny. I am really excited about this series and I can’t wait to see it.
