Netflix Officially Renews THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY for Season 2
Netflix has officially ordered a second season for The Umbrella Academy, and I couldn’t be happier to hear that news!
The first season of Gerard Way’s The Umbrella Academy surprised the hell out of me. I was not expecting the show to be as good as it was, and I can’t wait to see the story arc continue for the characters we’ve been introduced too.
The second season of the show will consist of 10 episodes, and it will begin shooting this summer in Toronto, Canada. Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min are set to reprise their roles in season two of the series. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
In The Umbrella Academy, on the same day in 1989 forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.
Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) will return as showrunner and executive producer for season two. When taking about the upcoming season, he told THR:
"The idea is not to deviate too much. We want to stay on course with what the comics are doing, and having that plan ahead of time allows us to set some things up now for later seasons, things that you'll see and later be like, 'Oh, I get that now, they did that for this reason.' That's what we're thinking ahead to.”
Are you excited to learn that The Umbrella Academy season two is officially moving forward?
