Netflix Picks Up Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s AI Thriller With Rachel McAdams Set to Star

Netflix has locked down Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new AI thriller, with Rachel McAdams set to lead the project. The film comes from Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman’s T-Street banner, continuing the streamer’s strong relationship with the company behind Knives Out.

Gordon-Levitt directed the movie and co-wrote the script with Kieran Fitzgerald, who penned Oliver Stone’s Snowden. Natasha Lyonne also shares “story by” credit.

Both Gordon-Levitt and Fitzgerald are producing. Gordon-Levitt has been vocal about his views on artificial intelligence, and this project looks to be a direct extension of that passion.

While plot details remain under wraps, Netflix reportedly became the creative home after Gordon-Levitt and T-Street “blew away senior creative executives, who were fully on board with the Inception star-turned-filmmaker’s vision.”

McAdams, whose career highlights range from Mean Girls and The Notebook to Game Night and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, will next appear in Sam Raimi’s upcoming genre film Send Help at 20th Century Studios.

This new project also reconnects Gordon-Levitt with longtime collaborators. He starred inJohnson’s 2005 debut Brick and the cult sci-fi hit Looper. Bergman previously produced Gordon-Levitt’s 2013 directorial debut Don Jon, with Johnson providing script feedback and reviewing multiple cuts of the film.

Netflix’s ongoing collaboration with T-Street includes not just the Knives Out sequels but also the acquisition of the erotic noir Fair Play out of Sundance 2023.

With Gordon-Levitt at the helm and McAdams in the lead, the streamer looks ready to add another interesting original film to its slate.
