Netflix Picks up Universal's Thriller EXTINCTION starring Michael Pena and Lizzy Caplan
Netflix continues to make moves, and in their latest deal the streaming service has purchased worldwide rights for the sci-fi thriller Extinction from Universal only two months after Universal pulled it off its schedule. Variety reports that Netflix plans to release Extinction later this year. The news comes four days after it began streaming J.J. Abrams’ The Cloverfield Paradox immediately after the Super Bowl, and two weeks after sources revealed that Netflix was buying the rights of what was then called “God Particle” from Paramount.
Extinction stars Michael Pena (Ant-Man) and Lizzy Caplan (Now You See Me 2 and Allied) as a husband and wife. Pena's character has recurring nightmares of losing his family when that bad dream becomes a reality when the planet is invaded by an alien force bent on destruction. Fighting for their lives, he comes to realize an unknown strength to keep his family safe from harm.
Pena and Caplan are joined by Luke Cage’s Mike Colter, Lilly Aspell, Emma Booth, Israel Broussard, and Lex Shrapnel. Ben Young serves as director from a script written by Spenser Cohen and Bradley Caleb Kane.
