Netflix’s period romance drama Bridgerton has been a big hit for the streaming service. It’s become quite popular and it seems like everyone is talking about it. I personally haven’t watched it yet, but fans of the show will be happy to learn that the show has been renewed for a second season.

The series comes from creator Chris Van Dusen and executive producer Shondra Rhimes and it’s based on a series of romance novels by Julia Quinn. The first season was based on the first book in Quinn’s series, The Duke and I, and it “centered on the complicated romance between the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne, played by Phoebe Dynevor, and the Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett — like Anthony also a “reformed rake” — portrayed by Regé-Jean Page.”

Season 2 will be based on the second book of the franchise as it chronicles the pursuit of a suitable marriage for the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.

There are eight novels total and each one revolves around the love life of one of the Bridgerton siblings. This series is said to be following the same format of the book, with each season dedicated to each of the brothers and sisters.

The announcement revealed that “The incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in Spring 2021.” Van Dusen also shared:

“We have a bunch of new characters we are going to be introducing. Anthony is going to have a love interest next season, and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show.”

The announcement came in the form of a special edition of Lady Whistledown’s Society Paper, which you can check out below.

If any of you have watched Bridgerton, what are your thoughts on it? Is it good and worth watching? I’m sure I’ll eventually watch it, but it’s not a priority on my list. Should it be?
