The first season of Netflix’s Warrior Nun was a lot of fun! It wasn’t perfect, but I enjoyed it. If you did as well, you’ll be happy to hear that the streaming service has renewed it for a second season!

Netflix shared a video of showrunner Simon Barry breaking the news to main cast members of the series Alba Baptista, Toya Turner, Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young, and Olivia Delcan. As you might imagine, the cast was super excited to learn that they are going to get a make a Season 2.

The news comes a little less than two months after the series launched its first season and it’ll be great to see how the story of these characters continues.

The series is based on the manga-style comic series of the same name that was created by Ben Dunn. The story is set in the middle of an ancient war between good and evil, and it follows “a young girl wakes up in a morgue with inexplicable powers. Her search for answers brings her to The Order of the Cruciform Sword, a secret society of warrior nuns sworn to protect the world from evil. While juggling her responsibilities as the chosen one with the normal obstacles of a teenage girl, this mysterious fantasy drama is full of mystery, action, adventure, and teenage romance, proving our main character might fight in the name of good, but she’s no angel.”

The main character Ava just wants to be a normal girl but is forced in this situation where she is battling demonic evil. Then there are all the other members of the warrior nuns who aren’t very happy about Ava coming in as the chosen one to take all the glory. They find themselves working together to fight against a villain who has opened a gateway to heaven.

By the time the first season came to an end, Ava accepted her sisters in arms and vice-versa, but not before an evil angel-like figure named Adriel (William Miller) returns to bring chaos.

Barry talked about the decision to end the first season with a massive battle which left the fate of the main characters up in the air. It was a pretty big cliff hanger, so I’m happy that it got picked up for another season.

“We actually wrote a version of the ending that was a little bit more conclusive. I mean, it had a bit more meat on the bone in terms of what happened. And when we submitted that script to Netflix, they were like, ‘Hey, what if you cut this a little short?’ We were all aghast at first. It was like, ‘Wow, that’s daring and a little bit dangerous,’ but I think we were basically being given tacit approval by Netflix to take some risks and to walk that line.”

Well, it’ll be interesting to see what they have in store for Season 2. Are you happy to learn that Warrior Nun is getting a second season?
