This review is going to be short and sweet, this is an amazing season The Umbrella Academy and freaking fun. If you liked the first season, then you’ll like this a lot too. Okay, that’s all! Enjoy the season!

In reality, I’ll break down some of the best aspects of the season and the few issues that keep it from being perfect. The characters really make this show shine, especially this season. The writing for each of The Umbrella Academy characters is crazy good. Their relationships, dialogue and character arcs are all really great explorations into who they really are, not a moment was wasted when building their characters. I was a little surprised that some of the subplots for Vanya, Diego, Five and Klaus ended up with similar subplots and character developments to last season. But it isn’t so bad that it ruins the show, and the writers do a good job recognizing the repetition and changing how things ended with their subplots. A few of the other characters should have had a bit more or less screen time altogether, but overall it was well balanced.

Also, I was super impressed with all the actors. A few of the supporting cast were flat here or there, but for the most part, the show felt very natural and true to the characters. I am still extremely impressed by Aidan Gallagher, the actor for Five. He is carrying the weight of the main story on his shoulders and does as good as last season or even better this time around. The actors all bring a lot of charm and realism to their characters and motivations. Last note about actors, Justin Min who plays Ben does a stellar job also with his extra screen time and more impactful role, I would have loved more of him and his developments.

The only things to really complain about or make critical notes about were mentioned above. With very minor spoilers (trailers at most), this season was also about the apocalypse and Five trying to reel in the gang to deal with it. It was a little odd to have that happening, but the show does delve into varied subplots to keep things interesting. My other main criticism is that a few characters are very underused. A few have too much screen time and I would have loved to see a bit more balance and usage of the unique characters.

Overall this show continues to use the source material well, even though they’ve made a lot of changes. The acting, story and character dynamics make for an excellent show and entertaining watch. The ENDING ending may upset people a bit, but I was fine with it. The Umbrella Academy continues to be one of the easiest to recommend shows on Netflix with its great action, amazing characters and superb writing.
