Netflix Will Have Released 1,000 Original Projects By The End of the Year

Netflix has become a monster force in the entertainment industry. If you're a fan with what they've been doing, and the original projects that they've released, you'll be happy to learn that Netflix will have 1,000 original films and series on its streaming service by the end of 2018. That's pretty damn impressive.

Who would have thought that a little company that started out by mailing DVD's to people would turn into this!? The news comes from chief content officer Ted Sanders. Quartz reports:

The streaming-video service has been ramping up production on its own TV shows and movies since releasing its first big original, House of Cards, five years ago. Roughly half of its originals—470 series, films, and other productions—are slated to be released between now and the end of the year, the Netflix executive added at a Moffett Nathanson investor event on Monday (May 15). More than 90% of Netflix subscribers watch its originals regularly, he said, though he did not define what that means.
“Original” has different meanings for Netflix, too. Some Netflix originals, like House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black, are licensed from other studios and branded as originals. Lilyhammer, Netflix’s first original series from 2012was a co-production that also aired on TV in Norway. Others, like Stranger Things and 3%, are self-produced by Netflix. It’s trying to do more of the latter, so it has more control over the properties.

That's great news because the projects that Netflix has a lot of control over tend to be really well done. It's reported that the Netflix Originals are now "the bulk of Netflix’s content budget now. Original TV shows, films, and other productions make up 85% of all new spending on programming." It's also explained that thanks to its user data, "Netflix knows more about its audience than almost any other media company."

This means that Netflix will be pumping out more and more projects of what audiences like to see. This is something that we've actually already seen happening. That trend is just going to continue.

It's noted that 90 percent of Netflix subscribers are watching the original content regularly. I personally love what Netflix is doing. I love the original programming and I love that they are giving talented filmmakers an outlet to make their films and tell their stories. It's good to know that will continue.
