Netflix's RESIDENT EVIL Series "Evolving" Featurette Offers Insight on the Story, Monsters, and Characters

Netflix has released a new “Evolving” featurette for its upcoming Resident Evil series. The video offers some new and interesting insight on the story the series will tell along with the monsters and characters that fill it. It also includes lots of footage from the series!

This series looks better than I was expecting, and it’s going to be filled with all kinds of crazy action-horror mayhem. The featurette includes interviews with writer and executive producer Mary Leah Sutton, showrunner Andrew Dabb, along with members of the cast.

The story is set 14 years after a worldwide apocalypse caused by a deadly virus in the year 2036, “14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker ((Ella Balinska)) fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father's chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie."

Jade is the daughter of Albert Wesker, who is played in the series by Lance Reddick. Showrunner Andrew Dabb previously explained that they took "all the games and shuffled them together" for this series. He also promises “a compelling jigsaw mystery stitched together over two timelines.” One of those timelines is set in 2036, and the other goes back to the year 2022.

It’s also explained that “The all-new series expansion brings the best of the Resident Evil DNA forward – bad-ass heroines, insane creatures (some new/some familiar), a battle for survival and of course, a deep mystery to unravel. Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) expands the directions with fresh storytelling, bone-chilling horror and an action-packed spectacle perfect for summer binging.”

The show also stars Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery. Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) serves as showrunner/executive producer/writer with Mary Leah Sutton as executive producer/writer.

Resident Evil is set to release on July 14th, 2022
