Netflix’s THE DIPLOMAT Season 3 Trailer Reveals Release Date and a Dangerous New POTUS

The political chaos is far from over in Netflix’s The Diplomat, and it’s about to get even more intense. The streamer just dropped a new trailer for Season 3, teasing the high-stakes drama that awaits and revealing that the new season will premiere on October 16.

At the center of the storm is Allison Janney’s Grace Penn, now officially the President of the United States, and the trailer wastes no time warning us just how messy things might get. “A terribly flawed woman is now the president, and only we know just how flawed,” says Keri Russell’s Kate Wyler.

Season 2 ended with President Rayburn dropping dead just moments after Rufus Sewell’s Hal Wyler exposed Penn’s potential connection to a terrorist bombing on a British warship. Now, with Rayburn gone, Penn isn't just under scrutiny. She's the Commander-in-Chief.

According to the official synopsis, things are about to spiral: “Kate accusing Penn of hatching a terrorist plot and admitting she’s after the vice president’s job. But now the president is dead, Hal may have inadvertently killed him, and Penn is the leader of the free world. None of this slows Hal’s campaign to land Kate the vice presidency.”

The new season sees Kate stepping into unfamiliar and dangerous territory, navigating her own political ambitions while dealing with complicated relationships. “Kate steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).”

Created by Debora Cahn, The Diplomat also stars Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh, with executive production credits going to Janice Williams, Alex Graves, and Keri Russell.
