Neve Campbell Is in Talks to Join SCREAM 5

There’s a fifth Scream movie in development with Ready or Not filmmakers Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett set to direct it. There hasn’t been a lot of information revealed for the film, but it was previously reported that the story would “follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”

We weren’t sure if the movie would connect to the previous installments, but it looks like that’s the plan! Franchise star Neve Campbell, who plays Sydney Prescott in the films, confirmed that she is in talks to join the project. During a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Campbell said:

“We’re having conversations – I have been approached about it. The timing’s a bit challenging because of COVID. You know, we only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago, so it’s going to take some time to figure out how it’s all going to work out…We’re negotiating, so we’ll see.”

Campbell went on to say that she’s “really apprehensive about doing another Scream” without director Wes Craven, who passed away in 2015. But, the new directors of the film reached out to her and they might have sold her on coming back:

“The two directors wrote me a very touching letter about Wes Craven and how he was such an inspiration to them and how they really want to honor him, and that meant a great, great deal to me. So we’ll see. Hopefully we can all see eye to eye on the project and find a way to make it.”

I’m a big fan of the Scream franchise, and if they are going to keep it going, they need to have Campbell back in the role of Sydney. It would also make sense to bring back Courteney Cox and David Arquette, who have appeared in all of the films as well. If they do bring Sydney back, they better not kill her off! Campbell went on to share her gratitude for the franchise saying:

“I’m so grateful for these films. I love Sidney Prescott. It’s always fun for me to step back in her shoes, and it’s always fun for me to see the cast come back and make one of these films again and try to make another good one.”

Would you like to see Campbell reprise her role in Scream 5?
