Neve Campbell Joins SCREAM 5 and Will Reprise Her Role of Sidney Prescott

Neve Campbell has officially joined the next chapter of the Scream franchise, and she will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott! I’m extremely happy about this news; you can’t have a proper Scream film without Campbell.

She joins fellow franchise stars David Arquette and Courteney Cox as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, and new cast members Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega.

Scream 5 is being developed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are part of a directing trio that also goes by the name Radio Silence. They are directing the film from a script written by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not).

As far as story details go, all we know right now is that “it will follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”

The directors said in a statement:

“We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a Scream movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”

Campbell added:

“After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

As a longtime fan of the Scream franchise, I’m incredibly excited to see where this next chapter is going to take the story and these classic characters. They better not kill any of them off!

Kevin Williamson is on board as an executive producer, and production is planned to shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina for a January 14th, 2022 theatrical release.
