New Animated Batman Trilogy Reportedly in Development at DC Studios

A new Batman animated movie trilogy is reportedly in development at DC Studios and it’s said to be based on Batman: Knightfall.

The news comes from a recent addition to the EIDR System, which “provides a unique identifier for audiovisual content across the global entertainment industry.”

The latest filing made on the EIDR System says that Warner Bros is producing new Batman animated movies, and that includes a trilogy.

The animated DC movies were previously produced by Warner Bros. and were part of the DC Animated Movie Universe. Now, James Gunn and Peter Safran are leading the charge on the animated projects and those being labeled Tomorrowverse.

Batman: Knightfall was published in April 1993, and the story explores the physical and psychological limits of Bruce Wayne as Batman. The story begins with the villain Bane orchestrating the release of Arkham Asylum’s inmates, creating chaos in Gotham City to wear Batman down.

As Batman struggles to recapture the escaped criminals, his exhaustion reaches a breaking point. Bane exploits this vulnerability, confronting Batman in the Batcave and defeating him in a brutal fight, culminating in Bane breaking Batman’s back.

With Bruce Wayne down for the count, the mantle of Batman is passed to Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael), whose extreme and violent methods alienate allies like Robin and Commissioner Gordon.

As Bruce eventually recovers and returns to reclaim his role as Gotham’s protector, restoring balance to the city and his own life.

This would make for a great animated Batman film trilogy if it’s true.
