New Animated LOONEY TUNES, FLINSTONES, and TOM & JERRY Movies in the Works at WB Animation
After selling off its Looney Tunes movies, Warner Bros. Animation is going to attempt to breath new life into some of its most iconic animation franchises, with theatrical animated movies now officially in the works for The Flintstones, Looney Tunes, and Tom and Jerry.
The studio made the announcement during its CinemaCon 2025 presentation, signaling a notable shift in direction after a rocky year for their animation slate.
Titles like Coyote vs. Acme faced near-cancellation and studio vaulting, leading fans to question if WB was pulling away from its animated roots. But now, it seems they are looking to rectify that as these legendary properties are getting a fresh theatrical push.
There’s still a lot under wraps. Details about the Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry projects are being kept kept locked away, but the mere fact that they’re officially in development is encouraging. One can’t help wonder, though, if when they are finished, will WB commit to them or discard them like their past coupe of Looney Tunes movies?
The one project with a bit more known about it is the new Flintstones movie, which has quietly been in the pipeline for a while. Titled Meet the Flintstones, the film comes from directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the duo behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Their take is reportedly an origin story for the prehistoric family.
This isn’t the first time Warner Bros. has tried to reboot the Bedrock bunch. A previously announced, adult-skewing animated series from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane ended up stalled in development. But this new feature film seems to have more momentum behind it.
All of these characters have helped define WB Animation’s legacy, so it’s good to see they are giving them the big-screen treatment. We’ll just have to wait and see how that all turn out. At least Warner Bros. Animation is making a push!
Hopefully, the films come with the charm, humor, and heart that made them iconic in the first place.
