New Answers About What Happened to Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber After He Lost It in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
A couple of months ago we learned that there was a new Star Wars comic coming, which is set shortly after the events of The Empire Strikes Back. The story goes back to Cloud City and explores what happened to Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber after Darth Vader cut off his right hand, which was holding it.
We assumed Luke’s hand and the Lightsaber fell into Cloud City, and the next time we see is in The Force Awakens in the basement of Maz Kanata’s castle. Han Solo asks where she got the lightsaber, and she said that it’s a good story “for another time.” We are now getting some answers!
In Star Wars #2, we learn that someone caught the lightsaber while it was falling. The story shows that Luke is struggling with himself after his fight with Vader and learning that he is his son. As you can imagine, that could mess up a person’s head. He is also devastated by the loss of the lightsaber, and as Lando Calrissian notices this, he tells Luke he can take him back to Cloud City to help him, but he also has his own agenda for going back to Cloud City. Lando tells Luke that he knows where Luke's Lightsaber is because he knows everything there is to know about Cloud City.
Lando explains to Luke, "You're tight with Leia and the Rebel leaders. I need to get back to Cloud City, and they'll never let me go. But if you ask, say you want to go, need me as your guide, Cause how I hear it, you lost more than your hand there. Your lightsaber, too. Lightsabers are about the rarest thing in the galaxy these days. Losing yours had to hurt. Well, I know Cloud City inside and out, and I know where your saber ended up when it fell. Get me back there. I'll show you."
As Lando is talking, the comic shows images of the lightsaber falling until it is eventually caught by a hooded figure on the final page. This mysterious figure says, "Skywalker, follow your destiny."
We have no idea who the hooded figure is, but I’m sure we’ll eventually find out! This is just a little bit of new info, but it’s intriguing to learn that someone with knowledge of what was going on was there to catch the lightsaber.
Who do you think the hooded figure could be?
