New AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER YA Novels Will Explore the Story of Avatar Kiyoshi

If you’ve been wanting more from Avatar: The Last Airbender, here it is. Nickelodeon has teamed with Abrams Children’s Books to give us some YA novels and they won’t be about Aang and the gang. The two confirmed books are said to be a duology about Avatar Kyoshi who is a fan favorite. The first book will be called The Rise of Kyoshi and follow her life including the creation of the Kyoshi Warriors and Dai Li. F.C. Yee (who worked on The Legend of Korra) is teaming up with series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino to write the book and everyone should be excited about it. These books will be considered canon and are expected to release July 2019. In a statement from senior vice president of Abrams, Andrew Smith said:

We’re thrilled to be partnering with Michael Dante DiMartino, Nickelodeon, and critically acclaimed author F.C. Yee to add to the canon of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Bringing Kyoshi’s previously untold story to life in original novels will be a major pop culture event, not only for fans of the show, but also for readers hungry for a new epic YA saga. The Rise of Kyoshi has all the hallmarks of what YA readers love — bold storytelling set in a rich landscape with a strong heroine at the forefront!
