New AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Rumor Says Loki Recruits 10 Heroes for an Epic Final Battle Against Doctor Doom
Marvel Studios has been keeping plenty of secrets when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday, and fans know there are still a lot of missing pieces.
Between the mysterious marketing, carefully framed promotional material, and even concept art that seemed designed to avoid revealing certain characters, it's become pretty clear Marvel is saving some major surprises for the big screen.
Now a new rumor is pointing to what could be one of the movie's biggest moments yet, and if it turns out to be true, the final battle may feature an incredible collection of heroes pulled from all corners of the Marvel multiverse.
According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the climax of Avengers: Doomsday sees Loki assembling one last team to stand against Doctor Doom after things have completely fallen apart. The rumored lineup includes some fan favorites that Marvel hasn't officially acknowledged for the film:
Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight
Tom Holland as Spider-Man
Chris Pratt as Star-Lord
Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel
Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop
Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang
Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Halle Berry as Storm
Dafne Keen as X-23
Unlike Infinity War and Endgame, which celebrated the Marvel Cinematic Universe that audiences had spent years following, Doomsday and Secret Wars seem to be reaching far beyond the MCU.
Everything we've seen and heard suggests these films are meant to celebrate Marvel's entire live-action history, bringing together characters from multiple franchises, including Fox's X-Men universe.
That's also why fans have been scratching their heads over who's been missing from the marketing. Characters like Jackman's Wolverine and Maguire's Spider-Man haven't been officially revealed, despite all the reports that they are returning.
The rumor also fills another noticeable gap in Marvel's current Multiverse Saga. There hasn't been much sign of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel's long-running setup for the Young Avengers has felt like it's been sitting on the sidelines after the studio shifted its plans toward Doomsday.
Moon Knight is another character who has largely disappeared since his Disney+ debut, with Isaac originally signing on for only one season. Seeing him finally return alongside the rest of this rumored team would be a welcome surprise.
Of course, even if this report is accurate, fans probably shouldn't expect these heroes to receive a huge amount of screen time.
The rumor paints this as Loki's desperate last gamble. Doom has already defeated Earth's Mightiest Heroes and is on the verge of wiping out the multiverse before reshaping reality in preparation for Secret Wars. At that point, Loki simply pulls together whoever he can find and throws everything he has left at Doom.
That doesn't exactly sound like a recipe for victory. Considering what we've already heard about Doctor Doom's overwhelming power, it's hard to imagine someone like Kate Bishop lasting very long in a fight that even Thor struggles to survive.
If this battle really happens, there's a good chance several of these characters arrive only to make a brief stand before being taken out.
The scooper also claims this isn't even the complete roster, suggesting even more heroes could join the fight. If that's true, Marvel could be setting up a sequence that rivals the iconic portals moment from Avengers: Endgame, except with one major twist.
This time... the heroes lose.
Instead of ending with an inspirational victory, the film could close by showing just how terrifying Doctor Doom really is. If he can crush the combined might of heroes from across the multiverse, it gives Secret Wars an even stronger foundation.
Rather than simply defeating Doom in another massive showdown, the surviving heroes would first have to uncover the source of his incredible power and find a way to strip it away before they have any chance of winning.
For now, this remains firmly in rumor territory, so it's worth taking with the usual grain of salt. But still, Avengers: Doomsday will still deliver a massive Marvel movie that is sure to have a jaw-dropping finale.
