New BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Spots Drop Tiny Morsels of New Footage

Check out these two new TV spots for Disney’s live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Cumulatively, there is about 1.5 seconds worth of new footage to get excited about. In the spot called “Break the Curse,” we see about half a second of the Prince’s transformation into the Beast, and then later Gaston punches the Beast, like, really hard. Of course, none of this is really new to you if you have seen the animated version.

I am just really excited about this movie, you guys. I was seven when the animated film came out, and Belle was my homegirl, and the songs were so good, and the fact that the villain was way hotter than the hero set me up for a lifetime of attraction to good-looking jerks. When the live-action Cinderella came out I really appreciated the way slight tweaks made Cinderella less of a victim without changing anything about the story, but I don’t want them to tweak anything for this one. I will gladly take a shot for shot remake of the animated film with a cast of really attractive people, and I will say a prayer thanking God that Luke Evans is alive to play Gaston. That’s it.

Here’s the synopsis, as if you don’t already know:

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Emma Watson is the Beauty, Dan Stevens is the Beast, and they are joined by Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Sir Ian McKellan, Emma Thompson, and Josh Gad. Beauty and the Beast roars into theaters on March 17. Catch up on all the trailers and news here.
