New Character Details for Disney+'s Series Reboot of THE MIGHTY DUCKS

As you may have heard, Disney+ is producing a series reboot of the classic hockey film franchise The Mighty Ducks. We previously learned that the story would follow a 13-year-old boy who, after getting kicked off the junior division Mighty Ducks team, decides to start a team of his own with the help of his mom. Together they go out on the hunt for players, a coach, and a place to play.

We now have some new details to share with you thanks to The Illuminerdi, who offered some details on two of the characters that will be featured in the story. Those characters are Sam and Koob, and here are the details:

Adib Samitar/”Sam”: An “11 to 13 year old African American or Somali boy. Sam has mastered skateboard riding and always does things his way. The thrill-seeker rarely turns down a challenge, even deciding to befriend Evan after a violent collision on his trusty board. He joins the squad after realizing that he will be allowed to be a renegade.”

Jaden Koobler/”Koob”: An “11 to 13 year old boy, who is said to be heavyset. Koob will never be mistaken for an Olympian, but instead is a hardcore video game player whose skin is pale from long hours of marathon gaming in his downstairs man cave. Though he rarely breaks focus from his monitors, he proves to have an almost superhuman level of dexterity and reflexes that are worthy of a kung-fu master. Koob is wary of joining the squad and will need to be dragged out of his safe space.”

The report also that the kids on the new hockey team "will have a hidden talent that is initially viewed as a detriment. Only after being introduced to hockey and teamwork will they discover all of their hidden potential and flourish.”

The series will be very different from the movies, and it makes sense to tell a different story. There’s no point in telling the same story that we already know. There’s a good chance that the spirit of the original films will be in the series though as the writer and producer of the original three films, Steven Brill, is on board to executive produce the series and help steer the series in the right direction.

The Mighty Ducks series will be shooting in Vancouver from February 10, 2020 until June 1, 2020. As someone who grew up enjoying the original films, I’m hoping this series turns out good!
