New Coke Is Making a Comeback Thanks to STRANGER THINGS 3, Watch the Promo Spot!

Do you remember New Coke from 1985? New Coke was the unofficial name for the reformulation of Coca-Cola to replace the original formula of its flagship soda. Everybody hated it ,and it only lasted 79 days before the Coca-Cola Company changed it back to the regular formula. It was a major brain fart.

Anyway, thanks to Stranger Things 3, New Coke is going to be making a comeback. It will pop up in select episodes of the series and Netflix wanted to spark up a cross-promotion with Coke, and they released a fun new commercial for it. That commercial was directed by the Duffer Brothers, and it’s said to be a remake of the original 1985 ad for New Coke.

Geoff Cottrill, senior vice president of strategic marketing for Coca-Cola North America had this to say in a statement:

“This is uncharted territory for us. We want to look for ways to work with Netflix, but only in ways that don’t interrupt consumers, and don’t get in the way of the entertainment. If we can find ways to integrate authentically and add value to the experience, then we want to be a part of it.”

It was revealed that only 500,000 cans of New Coke will be made available to the public from this promotion. Fans will have the chance to buy it online as part of a package at CokeStore.com/1985, or at the company’s World of Coca-Cola the week of June 3 on select days.

The company will also unveil limited-edition packages of original Coke with Stranger Things designs, as well as launching an ad in movie theaters. Check out the Stranger Things Coke ad below.

From new experiences to first love - one summer can change everything.
