New D&D Players Shouldn't Overlook the ELEMENTAL EVIL PLAYER'S COMPANION
If you’re a veteran player of Dungeons & Dragons, you’ve probably heard of the Elemental Evil Player’s Companion. If you’re new to the game, you may not be aware of this free official resource.
When you first go to play D&D, the first thing that you typically buy is the Player’s Handbook. You are then confronted by a growing stack of books to choose from that include new player options or adventures and none of them are very cheap. However, there’s one resource that anyone can access for free to add to the Player’s Handbook that often gets overlooked: the EEPC.
The EEPC is free, but it does require the System Reference Document or the Player’s Handbook to use. It introduces 3 new races, a new Gnome subrace, and a multitude of spells to choose from when creating and building your character. If you use D&D Beyond, you should already be able to use these contents without needing to do anything special.
If you are not using D&D Beyond, you can pick up the resource for free from a couple of places including the official D&D site and DMs Guild. Now, some of the parts from EEPC are included in other sources, but those cost money. I wish we as a community talked about this resource more.
