New Details for THE PUNISHER Season 2, Which Will Focus on Frank Castle Embracing Being a Vigilante
If you’re excited about The Punisher season two, we’ve got some new information to share with you regarding the story. Those details come from showrunner Steve Lightfoot, who talked about the theme of season two:
"If you ask, ‘What is the theme of Season 2?’ It’s about Frank really adopting the mantle of The Punisher."
So, it looks like Frank Castle will embrace being a vigilante this next season and will be going full Punisher. Watch, this season is going to be epic, and then Netflix is going to cancel the show!
Lightfoot went on to explain that season two will not start off in New York City. It will instead start off with Frank Castle on a tour across the U.S. and then will end up with him returning home to wrap up some loose ends. He explained that the first few episodes of season two will show the Castle "getting a look at the country he fought for but has never really seen," according to Lightfoot.
He’ll start off in casual clothes in the new season, but then it will evolve into his signature comic book look and that evolution will be significant to the story and a symbolic gesture. According to actor Jon Bernthal:
"This year, when he puts it on, we figured out a very intelligent, very tactical reason, a very psychologically tactical reason to wear it. It makes a lot of sense,.”
Bernthal went on to talk about The Punisher’s costume in season one, revealing that that the the creative team almost introduced the vest, but the actor wasn’t very happy with how they were handling it, so he fought for it to not be included:
"There was going to be a whole scene with Micro where they’re at the computer figuring [the suit] out. That was going to be the first time with him in the vest. [Micro] was just gonna’ sort of be drinking tea and I’m like, 'You can’t do that. It’s gonna’ look so friggin’ stupid.'"
Well, they’ve obviously figured out a way introduce the badass look of the character in season two that Bernthal is excited about.
Also, in case you were wondering, The Punisher season two will not address “The Snap” from Avengers: Infinity War.
It has also been explained that Ben Barnes will return to play the villain Billy Russo, who is technically the villain Jigsaw, but that’s not the name he’s going to go by in the series. There’s also another villain coming to the series named John Pilgrim, who is described as an alt-right Christian Fundamentalist, so that’s going to be interesting. He’s also said to be "a man whose calm exterior belies a ruthless interior. Despite having left behind a life of violence, circumstances will force him to use his old skills and bring him into Frank Castle’s world."
Floriana Lima will play Krista Dumont, "a smart, compassionate, and driven psychotherapist for military veterans." Giorgia Whigham will play Amy Bendix, "a street-smart grifter with a mysterious past."
Then there's Corbin Bernsen, who is set to play Anderson Schultz, "an extremely wealthy man who’s grown accustomed to getting his way. His power and legacy are of prime importance, and he’ll implement less-than-legal means to further those ends." Annette O’Toole will be taking on the role of the conniving Eliza Schultz, "Anderson’s equally manipulative wife."
Amber Rose Revah and Jason R. Moore are also set to return to the series.
Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada previously hyped season two, saying, “It is just crazy stuff. Crazy stuff. It’s going to be exactly what fans want. And Bernthal, Bernthal is Bernthal, man. He’s a force of nature, the dude."
The Punisher season two is set to premiere in January 2019. Are you excited for it?
