New Details on Scarlet Witch’s Powers and Connection to Vision in CIVIL WAR

Joe and Anthony Russo will be expanding a bit on the character Scarlet Witch in Captain America: Civil War. There were a lot of unanswered questions left after Avengers: Age of Ultron, and some of those questions will be answered in the upcoming movie. One thing that will be explored is the supernatural abilities that she has. During an interview with SHH, Elizabeth Olson opens up about the character saying:

“We find Scarlet Witch without a home, without a family, and she ends up creating a surrogate family within the Avengers and making a decision to be a part of the team. I think a lot of that has to do with Jeremy’s character – like his attitude towards her and the speech he gives her at the end of the film. So we pick up with her having started a new life, but still trying to figure out what her abilities are and if using them causes greater good or greater damage.”

Director Joe Russo spoke about the use of her powers and the limitations that she has:

“We like characters that have limitations to their powers, so there’s a cost for everything that they do. Wanda can’t fly, she can use her power to push herself off, launch and then bring herself back down. But she has to stop herself and it’s not the most graceful version of flying. It’s just using her power to create energy to push herself up and bring herself down, but she’s still subject to gravity.”

That’s interesting to think about, and I’m sure they had some fun playing around with that while expanding on her character in this movie. They made sure to abide by certain rules so that she doesn’t really have these limitless type powers.

In a separate interview with ScreenRant, Olsen talked about her connection with Vision. As you already know, both characters in one way or another are products of the Mind Stone from Loki’s Scepter. The power of the stone gave Scarlet Witch her special abilities, and it brought Vision to life. In regard to that, Olsen says:

"I think there’s something unique in the fact that her powers come from the same thing that powers him, and that is how we’ve made them have that kind of… that specifically in common, as opposed to it being something else that the comics kind of created, which has been pure romance. But they do have something uniquely special because of that."

The two will be on opposing sides in Civil War, but there may come a time where they do team up and form some kind of relationship with each other in the MCU. That’s something we’ll just have to wait and see. For more information on the film, click here.

Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6th.
