New Details Revealed For Lucasfilm's STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Series

Lucasfilm has been deep in production on a new Star Wars series that’s being developed by Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts. The project is titled Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and it takes place in the post-Return of the Jedi era alongside The Mandalorian.

The Star Wars show has been described as ”a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.” The story will follow four young kids from a tiny little planet, and they end up getting lost in the Star Wars galaxy and embark on a journey to find their way back home.

Jude Law stars in the series, and now we know the role that he’ll be playing. According to Making Star Wars, we now know that Law’s character is “a teacher and the show is like a field trip into and out of the known Star Wars Universe with The Goonies. Jude Law’s part instructor of the students, part Bran (the older brother in Goonies) in the series, as they contend with pirates in unknown territories. The journey takes them through rough spots and to opulent places.”

They also described some of the alien characters in the series based on a photo that they saw. The photo featured masks for the show “and there are a lot of classic alien species from the original six films in this series. I saw Weequays, Baradas, Mon Cals, Rodians, you name it, the greatest hits were all there. One Weequay looked a lot like Hondo Ohnaka but I honestly can’t confirm that the mask was his at this point but serious Hondo vibes were felt when I saw it.”

The series is also rumored to intersect with the Star Wars: Ahsoka series to some degree. “The show will explore the origins of The Nightsisters who are different from the witches we met on Dathomir in The Clone Wars.”

It was previously explained at the event that even though the series is about kids, this isn't going to be a kid’s show. Watts said: "It stars four kids, but it's not a kids show." The adventure that they find themselves on is going to be an intense and dark one.

Dave Filoni also joked that they chopped people’s heads off in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, saying: "It's as much of a kids' show as Clone Wars. And I'm like, we cut people's heads off in Clone Wars, so I'm not sure that's the best measure."

Watts added: "We liked the idea of using kids to give you a different perspective and see the galaxy through a different pair of eyes."

Lucasfilm's Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will stream 2023 on Disney+.
