New Revelations About Where Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber Ended Up After THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

Marvel Comics’ Star Wars #4 offers some new details on where Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber ended up after he lost it in Empire Strikes Back when Darth Vader sliced off his hand that was holding it.

This story, which comes from writer Charles Soule and artist Jesus Saiz, takes place shortly after the events of The Empire Strikes Back as Skywalker returns to try and find his lightsaber. Star Wars #2 ended with the image of a hooded figure grasping Luke's lightsaber.

Luke was struggling with himself after his fight with Vader and learning that he is his son. He is also devastated by the loss of the lightsaber, and as Lando Calrissian notices this, he tells Luke he can take him back to Cloud City to help him, but he also has his own agenda for going back to Cloud City. Lando tells Luke that he knows where Luke's Lightsaber is because he knows everything there is to know about Cloud City.

In this most recent issue, Luke is struggling to find his lightsaber, but he ends up abandoning his search for it after he sensed that his friends were in trouble, so he went out to rescue them. It’s here that he realizes that being a Jedi is definitely much more than his lightsaber.

Instead, of Luke finding it, the lightsaber is discovered by an Ugnaught in a trash heap in Cloud City. He’s lucky to have gotten hold of it before the trash compactor did!

So, what about the hooded figure? Well, I assume that must have been a vision of a possible future, or one of Luke’s fears manifesting itself.

For more from the unexplored time period between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, be sure to pick up Star Wars #5 when it arrives on April 22. Marvel also previously that the Jedi would wield a yellow lightsaber in Star Wars #6.
