New Details Shared for the Upcoming PREDATOR Movie; Will Be "More Akin to THE REVENANT"
Some new details have surfaced regarding the new Predator movie that is being directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), thanks to producers John Davis and John Fox. They say the film is almost done shooting and confirm that this will be an origin story about the Predator's first journey to planet Earth.
During an interview with Collider, Davis says, "It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It's the ingenuity of a human being who won't give up, who's able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force.”
He went on to say the film is more similar to The Revenant than any of the other Predator films, "It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon. You'll know what I mean once you see it. You can use your imagination. It is... early."
This is in line with the previous story rumors that have surfaced which say the film will follow a character named Kee, “a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior. Many years ago – in a time before any Europeans had ever encroached on their lands – the Comanche people had a well defined society and gender norms. Kee is very close to her younger brother, Taabe, who is being groomed as a leader. As capable as any young man in the tribe, Kee has always been a teacher and source of inspiration for Taabe. In the Comanche way – she is Patsi – the elder sister that has helped to shape him. Kee is a truth teller and has insight that others do not. A tomboy, she wants to prove herself in the masculine world of the Comanche. When danger threatens them all – Kee sets out to prove that she is as capable as any young warrior.”
That definitely sounds more it has more in common with The Revenant than the Predator franchise in general. Davis went on to praise the director of the film calling him “brilliant” and saying, "Watching dailies, you just understand how his vision is completely unique. He's got his own language and it's fresh and it's cool, and it's interesting."
It’s then revealed that the movie was originally conceived as an R-rated movie, but it could “easily end up PG-13.” He added, “I guess I'm going to find out what it has to be or what it is when it's all cut together."
The movie is being referred to as “Skull,” but we don’t know if that is the actual title of the film or the working production title. Regardless, Davis believes the film is going to be one of the best Predator films that has been made! He explains, "it's going to be, I believe, the second best -- or the first... or it may be equal to the first one. Right? I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie and I know what worked about it. I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It's going to be as good."
Well, we’ll find out how good the movie actually is when it ends up being released! I'll certainly be looking forward to watching it.
