New DOCTOR WHO Podcast Trailer Brings Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston Back Together After 20 Years
Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor are back for a brand-new adventure, 20 years after they first stepped into the TARDIS together.
Big Finish has dropped a trailer for Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Snare, marking the first time Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston have reprised their iconic roles side by side since the 2005 revival season of Doctor Who.
The audio drama kicks off a 12-episode run that will see Rose and the Doctor revisit familiar places, reunite with old allies, and battle some of the series’ most memorable villains. The first episode arrives this August, and fans can hear a taste of the reunion in the newly released trailer.
According to the official synopsis, Snare finds Rose and the Doctor back at the Powell Estate, where they encounter Kevin, a former neighbor clearing out his father’s flat. When an ancient power begins to stir on the estate, Kevin is pulled into a dangerous new journey alongside the time-traveling duo.
The return of Piper and Eccleston is a big deal for fans. The pair hasn’t worked together on Doctor Who since Season 1 of the relaunch, a season that redefined the franchise for a new generation. Reflecting on the reunion, Eccleston shared his excitement:
“I am so happy to be back recording more adventures for the Ninth Doctor with Billie. I don’t think my Doctor exists without Rose. He’s a ‘one man, one companion’ kind of alien. We’ve explored him on his own at Big Finish, as a loner. But there’s a resilience and a bravery and a deep empathy to Billie as Rose, that’s why I do this. They complete each other.”
Piper echoed those sentiments, saying:
“I can’t think of a better time for Rose to reunite with her first Doctor than now. Twenty years after she first ran into the TARDIS and towards adventure, here we are again, me and Chris, ready to have fun facing the universe – and the monsters – together.”
This reunion also comes just weeks after Doctor Who’s latest twist shocked viewers when Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor regenerated into a version of the Doctor played by Billie Piper during the Season 15 finale. What that means, whether it’s Rose, the Doctor, Bad Wolf, or something entirely new, remains a mystery for now.
For longtime fans, this audio drama is a chance to relive the magic of Rose and Nine, even as the television series explores its bold new direction.
Big Finish has a long history of keeping Doctor Who alive beyond TV, having launched The Ninth Doctor Adventures in 2021 and previously reuniting David Tennant and Catherine Tate for The Tenth Doctor Adventures. Now, Piper and Eccleston’s return promises to be one of the most exciting audio events in the Whoniverse.
What do you think about Rose and Nine reuniting after two decades? Will you be diving into Snare this August?
