Disney+ Reveals GENIUS Season 4 Will Focus on Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Disney has announced that Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood will be executive producing the fourth season of Genius. Genius: MLK/X will be focusing in on the often at odds Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
This season should be interesting for anyone looking to learn more about the civil rights movement in the United States. Each man was great in his own right and though they had very different philosophies, both were vitally important.
Bythewood is known for creating Swagger and writing A Different World. Prince-Bythewood is an award winning director, writer, and producer. Her latest feature film is The Woman King. Of the project, the Bythewoods have said:
Malcolm and Martin are staggering icons, and we have been eager to explore the genius of these two very real men in a way that has not yet been seen… …We are excited to team up with Imagine Entertainment and 20th Television to reflect their amazing lives and contributions to civil rights and the urgency of today.
Genius has received 20 Emmy nominations for its previous 3 seasons and will be moved to Disney+ for this fourth and future seasons. As the show has been so well received, I can only hope that it will do justice to these icons. Since this is the first time the show will focus on more than one person, I hope it doesn’t just pit these two against each other but rather show the vast and nuanced opinions of each man. No word yet on a release date, but this should be an interesting series to watch for you history buffs.
