New FAST AND FURIOUS Spinoff Film Confirmed to Center on Charlize Theron's Cipher
Well, it looks like that next Fast and Furious spinoff film is moving forward, and it’s been confirmed to focus on Charlize Theron’s character, Cipher. Vin Diesel told Variety “that he has writers working on a Fast & Furious spinoff for Theron’s character, Cipher.”
It was initially reported that this was going to be an all-female Fast and Furious movie, and it was later rumored that it would focus on Cipher. This latest update on the project obviously confirms that.
The last we heard, the script for this movie was being written by Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Perlman has worked on films such as Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, and Detective Pikachu. Beer worked on the Netflix film Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and is writing the recently announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Robertson-Dwore’s work includes the Tomb Raider movie and Captain Marvel.
I like Cipher, and I’m curious to see what kind of stand-alone story they want to tell with her that doesn’t involve any of the other big franchise actors.
While the main Fast and Furious franchise is coming to an end, Universal and Diesel have been planning all kinds of spinoffs for characters. Diesel previously said, “We’ve written out storylines for various characters. We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”
Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley added, “We’re certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now. It’s an ensemble cast and there’s room to bring characters in and out.”
So this Cipher spinoff is one of many that the studio is hoping to make.
